3 Rickards Diamond Raiders To Play At FAMU

Rickards High School will have three of their baseball players headed to FAMU next year.

Dexter Martin signed a scholarship and is batting .293, 14 RBI, 4 HR, .586 SLG. Martin is the son of longtime WCTV News Anchor Carmen Cummings.

Martin credits the addition of Jamey Shouppe for his reason to attend FAMU.

Martin's teammates Javon Byrd and Andrew Faulkner will also be headed to FAMU. The Raiders pair will go to FAMU as preferred walk-ons.

Byrd, a catcher is batting .297, .409 OBP, .983 FP. He is also getting it done in the classroom. 3.5 GPA. Byrd says that Shouppes experience as a pitching coach gives him an advantage as a catcher and that's a reason why he chose FAMU.

Faulkner, a pitcher is 4-1 with 45 strikeouts. He said that Shouppe has given him some tips and believes as his full-time coach, will make him a better pitcher.
