TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State University freshman center Solomon Alabi, who scored 25 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and blocked seven shots in helping Florida State to a pair of come-from behind victories over Georgia Tech at home and on the road against No. 10/10 Clemson, has been named the ACC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week. He shot .667 from the field (10 of 15), .714 from the free throw line (five of seven) and had three steals as the Seminoles improved to 18-5 overall and 5-3 in the ACC.
It marked the first time in his career that he has been honored by the ACC.
Alabi enjoyed the best game of his career in the Seminoles’ victory over No. 10/10 Clemson with a career-high 17 points, nine rebounds, five blocked shots and two steals. He scored 10 points and blocked four shots in the second half of the game as Florida State recovered from as much as a 19-point deficit to take the 65-61 victory.
After Florida State fell behind by 19 at the 14:44 mark of the second half, Alabi scored eight points, pulled down six rebounds and had three blocked shots. He scored the game-winning basket on a jumper with 2:07 remaining to give Florida State a 60-59 lead (its first since the scored was 3-2) then blocked a lay-up with 1:06 remaining that would have put Clemson back into the lead.
Alabi scored eight points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots in the Seminoles’ come-from-behind victory over Georgia Tech. He scored four points – including two on free throws – as the Seminoles recovered from a halftime deficit to win for the second time this season. Alabi made two free throws with 5:29 remaining in the game to put Florida State up 46-45 giving the Seminoles their first lead since the 7:58 mark of the first half.
Alabi enters Tuesday’s game against Virginia averaging 7.8 points, is tied for the team high with a 5.7 rebounds per game average and is the team leader with 48 blocked shots and a 2.1 blocked shots per game average. Alabi has blocked at least one shot in nine consecutive games.
