Former FSU linebacker Geno Hayes is thought to be in-line for more playing time this year with the Tampa Bay Bucs. This after the Bucs released veteran linebackers Derrick Brooks and Cato June... But apparently this past weekend, it was Hayes that had to be released--from the hospital.
The 2nd year man out of Madison County, Florida, was treated for lacerations associated with a pair of scissors and a knife. Reports from the Tampa Tribune say what started out as an argument between Hayes, 21, and his 19-year-old girlfriend Shevelle Bagley, wound up with Hayes suffering a deep cut in the neck. Bagley was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She was later released on $25,000 bail.
WCTV was able to reach Geno Hayes Monday night. He declined a live interview but did tell Sports Director Elton Gumbel that things aren't as bad as the initial report... Here's his response communicated to Gumbel through text message: "It's not what people are making it seem, she's (Bagley) not a bad person. But I have been advised to not talk about it until the investigation is taken care of."
Hayes was a 2008 draft pick of the Tampa Bay Bucs (selected 175th overall). Hayes played college ball at FSU after playing standout high school football for the Madison County Cowboys.
Back around Super Bowl XLIII Weekend, WCTV had the chance to catch up with Geno Hayes and Shevelle Bagley in his suburban Tampa home.
