Dungy and Head Coach Mark Richt Partner to Bring All Pro Dad to College Football

Tampa, FL -- Former NFL head coach Tony Dungy and University of Georgia head football coach, Mark Richt will hold a joint news conference on Wednesday, March 18, 2008 in the team meeting room at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall at 2:00 p.m., on the University of Georgia campus in Athens. The men will announce the expansion of the national fatherhood program, All Pro Dad, into college football.

“The importance of being a good father is a message we want to get out to Georgia fans, and to all fans of college football,” says Coach Richt. “All Pro Dad has a proven track record with the NFL, and we’re honored to be a part of this excellent program that is helping men become better fathers.”

The University of Georgia football program is already committed to challenging its student athletes “to reach their full potential in the classroom, on the field, and in society.” Coach Richt also wants to impress upon his players the importance of being good fathers when they arrive at that time in their lives. And, since many collegiate players grew up in homes without fathers, Richt hopes getting the All Pro Dad message to college athletes will help break the “fatherless” cycle.

All Pro Dad head spokesman Tony Dungy will help Richt deliver that message when he speaks to the University of Georgia football team prior to its practice, the day of the news conference.

“I want these young men to know that they can make the right choices during their college careers,” says Dungy. “They already have a significant head start being part of such a strong and well-rounded program under Coach Richt at the University of Georgia.”

All Pro Dad, introduced in 1997 by the national non-profit organization Family First (www.FamilyFirst.net), is dedicated to strengthening the bonds between fathers and their children. This unique program encourages dads to spend one minute a day reading the All Pro Dad Play of the Day email, one hour a month at one of 1,200 All Pro Dad’s Day Breakfast chapters nationwide, and one day a year attending an All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience with their children. The Father & Kids Experience, a football-themed interactive event for dads and their children, will be held at the University of Georgia, at a date to be announced later.
