Football players in Jefferson County are pumped and ready to hit the grid iron now that a new coaching staff has arrived.

Willie Spears from Thomasville, Georgia is the new Head Coach of the Jefferson Middle High School fighting tigers.

Coach Spears was chosen out of 50 applicants.

He tells Eyewitness News he thinks he knows why he was chosen.

"I have a lot of great coaches that I've worked under. They told me you must have a great staff and a supportive administration and athletes. And this place has that. I believe I got the job because I wasn't coming by myself, I had three great coaches coming with me," said Coach Willie Spears.

Jeremy Brown, Tyrone Boulware and Cameron Duke round out the coaching staff.

I believe all the coaches are quality teachers as well, so they are not just hiring coaches..and considering jefferson county has been a d/f school.hiring new teachers is probally not a bad idea..maybe they can motivate the kids in classroom as well as the field..just a thought????

Great they are hiring new coaches as the cut current employes pay and will layoff "fire" people because they are 500 K in debt. smart move jefferson co school board. Give yourself a raise. fire more people to pay for that too.

How can Jefferson County afford a new coaching staff when they have to lay off people. Just shows you that sports are more important than education.
