They are teachers, state workers, nursing school students, and graphic designers. They come from all different walks of life, but they are all Tallahassee Roller Girls. 11 months out of the year, these women go from business attire to busting through the pack in a test of toughness, endurance and skill.
"It's so much fun to be able to be out there with your team. It's really a sport," Roller Girl Hope Stewart says. "It's very competitive. Probably the funnest aspect is that you're actually in a pretty awesome sport, where you get to hit people, but you're legitimately considered a sports person."
The team says, with not many rec sports available to women in the area, they've latched onto roller derby, and in just four short years as a team, have already seen big results.
"We're the best, I know we're the best," Roller Girl Yolanda Williams says. "I'm going to put that out there right now. Anybody out there in Florida, we're welcoming all teams that want to challenge the Tallahassee Roller Girls."
