In 2001 North Florida Christian won their fourth straight state title, and fifth in six years. That was then; this is now as Casey Weldon has the Eagles looking for another championship.
Casey Weldon said, "Overall this season it's been a lot of fun, and going to Miami has been one of our goals, and we're looking forward to it."
Unlike past years, NFC'S road to state wasn't so clear. A new coach plus the loss of 4 division one players equaled uncertainty to start the season, but that changed quickly as the team came together.
Chris Walley said, "We had to come together as a unit, that's the main key is play together. That's what we told them before the game play hard, play fast, and play together and that's what we did."
Dayne Read said, "We really had a good camp this summer and we came together as a team and we just went from there and kept building."
The Eagles play Glades Day Friday and although the opponent isn't familiar, the coach is. Former NFC head man Pete Walker leads the Gators bringing an interesting twist, to the state title game.
Walley said, "Yeah, we're playing coach Walker. It'll be a fun match-up. We both know each other. He's got a lot of respect for us and vice versa, we have respect for him."
With that said it will all be settled on the field as NFC looks to bring a little bit of their past, into the present and add 2006 to their storied history.
