It appears more and more likely that little-used backup Chris Weinke will be Carolina's quarterback for Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Number-one quarterback Jake Delhomme missed a second straight practice today due to a sprained thumb on his throwing hand. He was injured in Monday's loss to Philadelphia.

Delhomme hasn't missed a game since he took over for Rodney Peete at halftime of the 2003 season opener.

The 34-year-old Weinke hasn't been a full-time starter since the 2001 season when the Panthers were 1 and 15 and has thrown only 13 passes in four seasons.
