In the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs have won 4 NBA Championships. For the Tallahassee Spurs, they will be looking to bring home the hardware of a national title of their own. The 13 and under team is traveling to Memphis, TN to compete in the Division II National AAU Tournament.
TAB Spurs 13U Head Coach Bryce Hall says,
"We're going to be expecting some of the best competition we can see. This is the Division II tournament which has sixty teams involved in it from all over the place. From California to Texas to Florida and just show give these kids the opportunity to see what other talents are out there and to play against the best."
Tallahassee Spurs Player J.T. Escobar adds,
"We've seen pretty good competition but I think this is going to be the hardest tournament we've gone to yet."
The team is made up of 7th and 8th grade students from all across the area. With the team practicing just a few nights a week, they have not let the distance slow them down at learning each others strengths and weaknesses.
J.T.Escobar adds,
"It's kind of hard to get to know each other but after you practice with each other you get to know each other really quick."
Bryce Hall adds,
"We go out of town for most tournaments, they're three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we're staying in hotels with each other, going to dinner, going and doing different things, hanging outside of basketball is when they get to become friends, it's kind of a way to meet other people that are in their class."
Hopefully after this tournament they will be in an elite class, known as champions.
