Tallahassee, FL - Former Tallahassee Community College baseball standout Michael Saunders is knocking on the door of Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners. On Thursday, he was named one of Baseball America’s Top 25 Midseason Prospects.
Currently playing with the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma, Wash., Saunders was rated No. 25 on a list that included former Florida State University catcher Buster Posey (No. 6) and Tim Beckham (No. 20), the No. 1 overall selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
Saunders missed the early part of the 2009 season due to shoulder surgery but has put up big numbers since joining the Rainiers. In 52 games, he is batting .302 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI.
Saunders, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, played for Coach Mike McLeod’s Eagles in 2005. Last summer, he represented Canada in the Beijing Olympics.
