Reaction to the Transfer of Former FSU Running Back Marcus Sims

The brother of 2006 NFL first round draft pick Ernie Sims has officially left the FSU football team...

Homegrown (North Florida Christian HS) Running back Marcus Sims is currently in Florence, Alabama and has enrolled at the University of North Alabama...

Searching for an expanded role within the gameplan, Sims has joined new UNA Coach Terry Bowden and from the looks of things, will get more playing time.

WCTV's Elton Gumbel talked with the Sims family this week while they were in Alabama, and they stressed that they still support FSU & Coach Bobby Bowden. Here's why they chose UNA...

"This is the perfect fit for Marcus as an offensive threat... He looked at opportunity and the depth chart and thought that North Alabama was the place," said Former FSU player & father Ernie Sims, Jr.

The news of his transfer doesn't mean the current FSU players are rejoicing over a freed up spot in the Seminoles backfield... Despite having just 1 touchdown and 64 yards rushing on 23 carries, Sims was a vital part to FSU's core of tailbacks...

The current depth chart shows just 3 backs with any collegiate gametime experience (Jermaine Thomas, Carlton Jones, Tavaris Pressley).

Projected starter Jermaine Thomas says summer workouts aren't the same without Sims.

"It was a little different. I just knew Sims, he always encouraged me even when I messed up. He always lifted me just like Antone Smith did as well. I remember one time after the Georgia Tech game, we kind of got closed after that game and just talking to him, telling him to keep the head up, we all make mistakes," said FSU projected starting tailback Jermaine Thomas.
