Officials at Lincoln High School have suspended head football coach Yusuf Shakir from all coaching responsibilities until further notice.

Lincoln Principal Allen Burch released this statement.

"This morning I was notified of the arrest of Yusuf Shakir, head football coach of Lincoln High School. Based on the information that I received, I have suspended Mr. Shakir from all football coaching responsibilities until further notice. In addition, his case will be referred by the Leon County School District to the Department of Education’s Professional Practices. I have high expectations of all of my staff and I am now most concerned for our students and student athletes as they have returned focused on having a great year at Lincoln. I will monitor this case as it progresses and will work with our dedicated staff to move forward with this football season and school year."

Lincoln will play their first football game September 3rd against Niceville.

Lincoln High School Athletic Director Paul O'Halloran confirms that school officials are going to speak to Yusuf Shakir on Sunday regarding the DUI arrest.

O'Halloran says there is no further comment.

The head football coach at Lincoln High School was arrested for a DUI early Sunday morning.

A Leon County Sheriff's Office booking report shows that 31-year-old Yusuf Shakir was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol for a DUI and booked at the Leon County Jail at 6 'o clock Sunday morning.

In March, Shakir was hired as the head football coach of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee.

LCSO says Shakir was released at 8:53 Sunday morning.
The report says this is Shakir's first offense.
