VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State football completed its first week of spring practice Monday morning as the Blazers participated in their fourth practice under new head coach David Dean.
The Blazers took the field for their first session under Dean last Wednesday, hitting the field at 7:15 a.m. before returning to the gridiron on Friday morning. Saturday featured the squad's first scrimmage of the spring.
"I thought we had a good scrimmage on Saturday," said Dean after Monday's practice. "Our offense was particularly good. Our timing was great and we really protected the quarterback well so I was pleased with that. Defensively, I was very impressed with our secondary. They made some great tackles and were aggressive. Overall, I was very pleased with the effort put out by the team."
While Dean was pleased with the team's effort as a whole, he also pointed out that several individual had stood out during the first four practices.
"Willie Copeland has really looked good throwing the ball," said Dean. "With a year under his belt in our system, he is really showing confidence in his throws. Jose Garcia has also come in and impressed myself and the rest of the staff. On defense, William Montford has had four great practices."
The Blazers will hold two more practices this week, taking the field Wednesday and Friday mornings before breaking for Spring Break.
