VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Valdosta State earned an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA South Regional, according to an announcement made by the NCAA Sunday night.
The Blazers are one of 42 teams to earn an at-large bid and will enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed in the South Regional. The Blazers will face No. 2 Rollins in the first round of the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 10 in Montevallo, Ala.
"I'm very happy four our team and the chance for us to continue playing," said head coach Mike Helfer after the announcement. "I'm pround of our players and the year that they had. I think the at-large bid shows the strength of our schedule this season and the quality of some of our wins."
Valdosta State played four games against teams in the South Region, picking up wins against No. 4 Barry and No. 8 Albany State while falling twice to No. 1 Montevallo. The rest of the bracket includes No. 3 Benedict, No. 5 Henderson State and No. 6 Eckerd.
The appearance in the 2007 tournament marks the third time in the last six seasons that Valdosta State has advanced to the NCAA postseason.
Rollins tallied a 24-6 record during the 2006-07 season and tied for the Sunshine State Conference regular season championship.
