RALEIGH, N.C. - The Florida A&M Women's Basketball Team pulled out a 71-69 win over North Carolina A&T, in the quarterfinal round of the 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament, Thursday afternoon at the RBC Center.
A&T's Brittany Taylor-James scored the Lady Aggies first nine points of the game by cashing in three three-pointers in four attempts.
Amber Bland hit a three pointer with 15:00 remaining to give the Lady Aggies a 16-4 lead.
The Lady Rattlers would battle back to tie the game at 22 all, on a Stephanie Foster lay-up with 9:09 remaining, capping a 11-2 run.
A layup by A&T's Ahmed Williams knotted the score for the fourth time at 28-28.
FAMU would trail A&T, 35-32 at the break.
The Lady Rattlers shot 31.0 percent (13-of-42) for the first half from the floor, while the Lady Aggies shot 38.9 percent (14-of-36) from the floor.
Bland gave A&T a nine-point lead, 45-36, on a jumper with 14:52 left in the second half.
FAMU's Deidra Jones tied the game 57-57, with a jumper with 7:32 remaining, capping a 10-4 run.
FAMU took the lead, 60-59, on a Marke Freeman field goal with 6:23 left.
The Lady Rattlers pushed their lead to three points, 64-61, on a Joslyne Jackson layup with 4:09 remaining.
A&T grabbed a 69-68 lead on a Williams layup with 49 seconds remaining in the contest, but Freeman tied the game at 69 all for FAMU on a made free throw with 42 seconds remaining.
Jackson sealed the win for the Lady Rattlers, 71-69, on a pair of made free throws with 10 seconds remaining.
FAMU (16-15) was led by MEAC All-Rookie Marke Freeman in another stellar performance with 20 points and nine assists.
2006 MEAC Rookie of the Year Deidra Jones pumped in 13 points off the bench, 2007 All-Rookie performer Secrett Anderson added 12 points while Jackson finished with 11.
Denise Tate led the Lady Rattlers on the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds.
A&T's (17-13) Brittanie Taylor-James led all scorers with a game high 27 points, followed by Lonise Coulter with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Lady Rattlers will return to action against Delaware State in the semifinal round of the MEAC Tourney on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at RBC Center.
