Valdosta High To Say Goodbye to Coach Rick Tomberlin

Valdosta High School Head Football Coach Rick Tomberlin has 215 career victories in 27 years on the sidelines for 6 different schools.... But just 19 wins since 2005 is enough to for Valdosta High to say goodbye...

Reports say Tomberlin has been fired as Head Coach, but will stay in charge of the Wildcats for the remainder of the season. Right now Valdosta is (4-3) with a shot at claiming the 4th & final spot for the State Playoffs...

Back in 2007, Tomberlin put together his only winning season with the Cats, going (8-3) and finding Round 2 of the GHSA playoffs. Tomberlin has improved the role of the student-athlete at Valdosta High and built more of a team atmosphere. Nevertheless, he becomes the 3rd head coach in the last 7 years to be let go from Valdosta High. He joins Rick Darlington in 2005, and Mike O'Brien in 2002.

In Tomberlin's previous stint at Washington County, he won 3 state titles including 3 undefeated seasons.
