CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 17 Florida State volleyball team has steamrolled yet another opponent; this time it was the Eagles of Boston College.
The Seminoles (17-2, 8-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) earned their 12th sweep of the 2009 season Sunday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. as they defeated Boston College (11-9, 1-8) in three sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-9).
In what was its most convincing victory of the year, FSU capped off another successful weekend on the road. The Seminoles have now won both conference road games in back-to-back weekends and extended their winning streak away from Tully Gym to nine games in a row.
“The girls were very focused today,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “Everyone contributed and worked hard to get the win. Georgia Tech and Duke both lost today so that puts us in sole position of first place in the ACC.”
Just as he did in Friday’s win over Maryland, Poole had the opportunity to play his entire bench against the Eagles.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachael Morgan hit an impressive .625 and had a match-best 10 kills. Reigning ACC Player of the Week Jordana Price added nine kills from her middle blocker position while adding four blocks.
Seniors Brianna Barry and Mira Djuric also combined for 12 kills. Djuric had a team-high eight digs.
Setters Nikki Baker and Duygu Duzceler registered a combined 30 assists for a Seminoles team that recorded 33 assists to just 18 by Boston College.
Duzceler also achieved a new career-high with four aces, which tied with Djuric for most on the team.
The ’Noles now return home to play NC State on Friday and North Carolina on Sunday. The match against the Tar Heels will be aired regionally on Sun Sports and will serve as the team’s 2009 Paint it Pink game.
At the conclusion of the match, there will be a youth volleyball mini-clinic for children five years of age through eighth grade.
