VSU Football Prepping for Bitter Rival

By  |

On Thursday night, the Valdosta State Blazers will look to extend their season by doing what no one else has been able to do thus far this year, and that's beat the University of North Alabama.
VSU head football coach David Dean says, "Anytime you play North Alabama, there's always a lot of excitement in the air. We're excited about the opportunity to put together three wins in a row, and for us, it's fortunate that we're playing on Thursday night because we don't have a lot of time to sit around and think about the game."
As if this heated rivalry needed any more spice? Well, they got it as the game will be nationally televised with UNA bringing their number one ranking to Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. Oh yeah, they'll be also bringing in a lot of familiar names with them, Head coach Terry Bowden for one and plenty of former FSU Seminoles including Marcus Sims, and Preston Parker.
VSU senior quarterback Kellen Lewis says, "You know we already joked about that looking at the depth chart. How many transfers they got and how many aren't from Alabama or are from Florida State. People joke around calling the University of North Alabama at Bobby Bowden field and things like that."
Dean adds, "The one thing I'll say about coach Bowden is he's done a great job molding all those guys together and getting them to where they're playing together well."
Lewis says, "Pretty much everyone says they're unbeatable, and you know we're just going to go out there, play hard and see how the chips fall."
So, VSU is all-in knowing another loss essentially ends their season while a win will mean the Blazers' postseason hopes stay alive.
