ATHENS, Ga. (AP) _ Auburn pitcher Scott Shuman walked home Miles
Starr in the ninth inning and Georgia beat Auburn 4-to-3 in the
Southeastern Conference opener for both teams tonight.
The Tigers (18-4) took a 3-to-1 lead in the fourth inning on
Eric Skinner's sacrifice fly. But the Bulldogs (6-11) trimmed the
lead on Matt Olsen's R-B-I single in the sixth, then tied the game
at three the next inning when Blake Cannady scored on Jonathan
Wyatt's sacrifice fly.
Shuman (4-1), who pitched one inning, gave up four walks -- two
intentional -- in the ninth and surrendered the game-winning run.
Joshua Fields (1-3) had three strikeouts and allowed only one
hit in two innings work for Georgia.
