Athens, GA - Georgia senior Alex Hill rallied to beat Stetson’s Njal Stene, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3, in the qualifying round of the ITA Southeast Regional Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Hill moves on to face Georgia Southern’s Alain Garrido in the main draw round of 64 on Friday.

“It was good to get out there and work my way through the three sets,” Hill said. “I started out a little shaky then began to settle down. I’ve been looking for a match like this to give me some confidence, and hopefully this will be a start.”

Other Georgia matches scheduled for Friday include Nate Schnugg vs. Lawrence Harradine (Florida Atlantic), Will Reynolds vs. Christian Blocker (Miami), Christian Vitulli vs. David Simon (Miami), Jamie Hunt vs. David Jackson (Florida A&M), Javier Garrapiz vs. Andres Bucaro (Florida State), Drake Bernstein vs. Hector Nieto (Miami) and Borja Malo vs. Juan Melian-Puigventos (Georgia Southern).

In doubles, Schnugg and Hunt will face Garrido and Melian-Puigventos, Hill and Reynolds will face Thibaud Aime and Matt Rock of Florida Gulf Coast, and Bernstein and Garrapiz will battle Florida’s Cueto Carlos and Joey Burkhardt.

Play begins Friday with 16 doubles matches at 8 a.m., followed by 16 singles matches at 9:30 a.m. The singles and doubles winners of the five-day tournament advance to the ITA National Indoor Tournament next month.
