TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 26, 2009) – Tallahassee Community College’s stellar list of preseason accolades continued on Monday when the Eagles earned a No. 7 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Men’s Division I Basketball Poll.
Earlier this month, TCC earned a No. 3 preseason ranking from the Sporting News. This marks TCC’s highest ranking in the NJCAA’s preseason poll since the 1999-2000 season when the Eagles opened at No. 2.
Coach Eddie Barnes’ Eagles are one of three teams from Florida (NJCAA Region VIII) in the Top 30, all of whom landed in the top half of the poll. Central Florida Community College enters the season as the No. 1 team in the country while reigning FCCAA and Panhandle Conference Champion Chipola College is No. 13. No other region had more than two teams in the poll.
TCC and Central Florida are slated for a pair of regular season meetings – November 21 in Ocala and December 17 in Tallahassee. The Eagles will also play Chipola three times beginning with a January 19 tilt at the Eagledome.
TCC’s 2009-10 schedule includes two other teams ranked in the NJCAA’s preseason poll – Kankakee (Ill.) Community College and South Georgia Tech. Kankaee is part of the field for the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic and will play the Eagles on January 2 while TCC and South Georgia Tech will play a home-and-home – November 17 in Americus, Ga., and December 1 in Tallahassee.
The Eagles open the 2009-10 season at 8 p.m., Thursday, November 5 when they host Middle Georgia College in the Wing Zone Tip-Off Classic.
