GREENSBORO, N.C. - Fresh off a 26-8 record in 2008-09 the Florida State women's basketball team continued its climb toward the top of the ACC on Monday when the Seminoles were voted to finish third in the Atlantic Coast Conference by a Blue Ribbon Panel as announced by the league office. The Seminoles earned a pair of first place votes as they were ranked behind Duke and preseason favorite North Carolina.
Senior Jacinta Monroe was selected for the 2009-10 Preseason All-ACC Team after her second team All-ACC performance a year ago. Monroe will enter the season as the most prolific shot blocker in school history with 225 in three years and will hope to continue to improve on that total in 2009-10.
The Seminoles earned a pair of first place votes after finishing 2008-09 with a 12-2 conference record and earning a share of the regular season title. North Carolina earned the top spot with 30 first place votes, ahead of second-ranked Duke which picked up 10 first place votes.
Virginia placed fourth, ahead of 2009 ACC Champion Maryland which picked up three first place votes. Boston College, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State and Wake Forest wrapped up the top 10 with Clemson and Virginia Tech rounding out the list at 11 and 12.
Joining Monroe on the preseason All-ACC team was North Carolina's Jessica Breland, Boston College's Carolyn Swords, Duke's Jasmine Thomas and Virginia's Monica Wright.
