ATLANTA, Ga. - After an exciting stint at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships, No. 24 Noemie Scharle came to the end of the road Monday as she fell to Allie Will of Florida 6-4, 6-0 in the finals of the singles draw. The sophomore now awaits an at-large bid or wildcard selection for the ITA National Indoor Championships November 4-8.
“I'm very proud of Noemie's effort this weekend,” FSU Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. “Being one of two women standing at the end of this event took everything she had. Lu did not play her best tennis this weekend, but she was able to overcome some mental obstacles and was forced to really grind through some matches. She was able to get back to form in the final, and play at a much higher level to finish off the tournament. Now, we will sit back and hope for an at-large selection for the ITA National Indoor Championships.”
Scharle, seeded fourth in the draw, opened the day strong by posting a three-set win over No. 43 Nadja Gilchrest of Georgia 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. The Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg native then went on to face in-state rival Will where she fell in the finals. The Seminoles leaves the championships with a 5-1 record.
Next up for Florida State will be the Seminole Invitational on November 6-8 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Fans are encouraged to follow the ‘Noles on twitter @fsu_wtennis and www.seminoles.com.
