Falcons Deal Vick's Backup

HOUSTON (AP) _ The Houston Texans reportedly are close to
acquiring Atlanta Falcons backup quarterback Matt Schaub. A source
with knowledge of the deal says it is expected to be announced
tomorrow. The source, who requests anonymity because the deal is
not completed, did not disclose details of the trade.
The Houston Chronicle and the N-F-L Network say the Falcons will
get second-round picks this year ane next, and that the teams will
swap first-round picks this year, with Atlanta moving from 10th to
eighth.
A call by The Associated Press to Texans general manager Rick
Smith wasn't immediately returned. Rich McKay, Atlanta's general
manager, said during a conference call on next week's league
meetings that Schaub is a restricted free agent and is entitled to
visit every team. McKay said the Falcons have talked to a number of
teams with interest in the quarterback. That was all he would say.
Schaub was a third-round draft pick from Virginia in 2004. As
backup to Michael Vick, he hasn't started a game since 2005 and
threw just 27 passes last season. He has performed well in
preseason games, has started two games in his three-year career and
is 84-of-161 for a thousand and 33 yards with six touchdowns and
six interceptions.
