Noles Remain Unbeaten in ACC

Tallahassee, Fla. - The top ranked Seminole baseball team continued to roll Saturday night behind another stellar game by a starting pitcher. Senior Michael Hyde set a season high as he threw seven innings allowing just two runs and no walks upping his record to 8-0. After allowing two runs in the top of the first, Hyde shut the Eagles (6-10-1, 4-4) down for the next six innings. The win kept FSU perfect in ACC play as the Seminoles are now 5-0 and 25-1 overall.

"Michael had a very good outing. I am very, very proud of him," said FSU Head Coach Mike Martin. "He battled. He didn't have a great outing but he battled and that's what it's about."

"It was a dogfight all night long," said Hyde. "It was one of those days where you have to go out there and have a little something extra every inning because your stuff wasn't all there. I didn't throw as many pitches as I had been the last few outings but I felt like I threw more because of how much effort I had to put into it. They are a very good ball club and they kept putting the ball in play. Luckily I have the defense I do behind me to pick me up."

For the 15th time in 25 games, the FSU offense scored double digit runs. Mark Hallberg paced FSU at the plate with three RBIs but it was the bottom of the Seminole order that came through. Brandon Reichert and Mark Gildea combined to go 5-for-6 with four RBIs as the Seminoles recorded their most lopsided win in the short series history with the Eagles.

"I tell you what it makes it a lot easier to pitch when you have guys in the line-up like we do right now," said Hyde. "They put they ball in play and score runs behind you. It makes it a lot easier to pitch with a lead than without one."

"It was a great night," said Gildea. "The defense played well. Hyde pitched really well. It was a good team effort all around. It was a lot of fun."

Boston College jumped out to an early lead versus Hyde in the first. Back-to-back one-out singles and a wild pitch put two runners in scoring position. Eric Campbell then recorded BC's third single of the game putting the Eagles up 1-0. It was the first run allowed by Hyde in 14 innings. A sacrifice bunt brought home another run but a spectacular play near the tarp in foul territory by Jason Stidham ended the top of the first.

The Seminoles got on the board in the second. Dennis Guinn was hit by a Nate Jeanes offering and Stidham followed with a base hit to put two aboard. Travis Anderson's base hit loaded the bases for Gildea. The center fielder laced a double to the wall in left tying the game at 2-2. Reichert doubled the Seminole score with a double of his own off the screen in right as FSU jumped in front 4-2. Following a spectacular play by third baseman Eric Campbell on a Tony Thomas, Jr. smash, Hallberg continued the trend as he doubled plating the fifth run of the inning. Buster Posey followed suit recording the fourth double of the inning as the Seminole lead grew to 6-2.

Gildea led off the bottom of the fourth with his second hit of the day. Another base hit and a throwing error put two runners in scoring position. Thomas then singled home the seventh run of the game and moved up to second on the throw to the plate. Hallberg then brought both runs in on a single boosting the FSU advantage to 9-2.

Brandon Reichert led off the bottom of the sixth with a base hit up the middle and then a Thomas hit by pitch put two on board. A BC error allowed FSU to get to double digits as the game moved to the seventh with FSU in front 10-2.

For the first time since the first inning BC got back on the board. A leadoff single and a wild pitch put a runner in scoring position. The first out came on a fielder's choice leaving the Eagles with runners on the corners but a sac fly plated the run.

Florida State and Boston College will conclude their series Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast in Tallahassee on SUN Sports. Fans can follow all the action over the Internet. Gametracker will be available for the contest along with live radio broadcast courtesy of 1270 the TEAM.
