ST. LOUIS (AP) _ University of Florida president Bernie Machen
doesn't expect to lose coach Billy Donovan to Kentucky.
The Kentucky job opened up last week when Tubby Smith left for
Donovan is a former assistant at Kentucky under Rick Pitino.
Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley and Machen have been
working to get Donovan a new contract over the last year. Donovan
delayed signing the deal believed to be worth about two (m) million
dollars annually after Joakim Noah, Al Horford and Corey Brewer
turned down N-B-A riches to return for their junior years.
Donovan has two years remaining on a contract that pays him
one-point-seven (m) million dollars a season. His next contract
could be worth much more, especially if the Gators become the first
team in 15 years to win consecutive national championships.
