Tallahassee, FL - The Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) released its Men's and Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Polls on Wednesday as part of the Panhandle Conference's Men's Basketball Media Day Luncheon, held at Pensacola Junior College.
Tallahassee Community College's men's team earned the No. 1 spot in the men's top ten while the Lady Eagles will open the season ranked No. 5.
The Eagle men received ten of 18 first-place votes to outdistance No. 2 Miami Dade College and No. 3 Central Florida Community College, the No. 1 team in the NJCAA's preseason poll. A trio of Panhandle Conference rivals fill spots four through six - Northwest Florida State College, Chipola College and Gulf Coast Community College, respectively.
Hillsborough Community College, Santa Fe College, Broward College and Polk State College round out the top ten.
Like the men, the women's poll has a distinct Panhandle Conference flavor.
No. 1 Gulf Coast received 12 of the 16 first-place votes to lead a quintet of PC teams at the top of the poll. The Lady Commodores are followed by No. 2 Chipola, No. 3 Northwest Florida State, No. 4 Pensacola and No. 5 Tallahassee.
Indian River State College, Santa Fe, Daytona State College, Central Florida and Miami Dade complete the women's top ten.
The Lady Eagles open the 2009-10 season at 6 p.m., Tuesday, November 3 when they host Santa Fe. The Eagle men tip things off two nights later when they host Middle Georgia College at 8 p.m. in the Wing Zone Tip-off Classic.
