Florida State's women spent most of the month of March in California making history. At long last they return.
As a 10th seed in the NCAA tournament, the FSU women's basketball team had to feast on a high seed menu; 7th seeded old dominion, and 2nd seed Stanford. After a pair of victories and the first trip ever to the Sweet 16, it's safe to say the ladies were well-fed.
Sue Semrau, FSU head women's basketball coach, said, "We played well, knocked off a good program in old dominion, then had a shot to beat Stanford on their home court, and our players decided that they were gonna get down and dirty and do the dirty work."
And the program’s outlook for next year is just as encouraging. Alicia Gladdens will sorely be missed, but Coach Sue has 4 of her starting 5 returning.
Semrau said, "We are real excited about the core that we have coming back and all the experience they gained throughout the sweet 16 run. This program is vibrant. There's still a lot of room for growth in a lot of areas and that's exciting for a coach."
Who knows? Next year we could be talking about how a (24-10) season turned into years of postseason success.
