ATHENS, Ga. (AP) _ The University of Georgia is expected to
announce today that basketball coach Dennis Felton's contract has
been extended for two years.
A statement released this morning says the athletic
association's executive committee will meet by conference call this
afternoon to discuss only one item -- a personnel matter.
Felton has only two years remaining on his contract, and an
extension has been expected.
Georgia finished 19-14 this season, missing out on the
N-C-Double-A tournament but winning one game in the N-I-T. The
Bulldogs were 8-8 in the Southeastern Conference.
It was Georgia's best season since 2003, when the Bulldogs went
19-8 but pulled out of the postseason after revelations of academic
fraud and improper benefits to student-athletes cost coach Jim
Harrick his job.
Felton had to rebuild the program under the burden of
scholarship sanctions. Georgia finished 8-20 two seasons ago and
improved to 15-15 last year.
