Freshman designated hitter Tyler Braddock (2-4, R, 3 RBI) drove in three runs to help lead TU (21-14) to a 5-3 victory over the visiting Brewton Parker College on Tuesday afternoon at Varnedoe Stadium.
Braddock got the Night Hawks on the board early with a run scoring single in the bottom of the second inning for the early 1-0 lead. TU plated two more in the inning for the 3-0 lead. In the Night Hawks half of the third Braddock once again made BPC pay the price, driving in two runs with a double to give TU a 5-0 lead. Five TU pitchers combined in the winning effort with nine innings of seven hit ball, allowing three runs (two earned). Senior starting pitcher Jared Carter threw two shutout innings and allowed only two hits for the victory. TU shut the door on Brewton when senior closer Case White set them down 1-2-3 in the ninth for his fourth save of the year. White lowered his ERA to 1.37 on the season in 19.2 innings pitched. Sophomore first baseman Matthew Blanton went 3-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Thomas will be back at home on Tuesday April 17 at 4PM when they host the NCAA DII Georgia Southwestern University Hurricanes at Varnedoe Stadium.
