TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 11, 2007) -- The Florida Disabled Outdoor Association’s (FDOA) 16th Annual SportsAbility Expo, an event promoting the quality of life for persons with disabilities through active living, takes place Thursday through Saturday, April 12-14. Tallahassee Community College is again lending its support by hosting activities on the first two days of the three-day event.
SportsAbility kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 with the Third Annual Active Leisure for Life Banquet. The event, which also includes a silent auction and performance by comedian Jeff Charlebois, will take place at the TCC Capitol Center, located in downtown Tallahassee at the Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science. The dinner will celebrate the efforts of those who have contributed to the disability community. Tickets are $25 per person or $40 per couple and proceeds will support the FDOA SportsAbility and Recreation for Adults with Disabilities programs.
SportsAbility moves to TCC’s Lifetime Sports Complex on Friday with its Indoor Activities and Resource Expo, which takes place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Students from TCC’s Leisure Education Department organize the event, which features demonstration clinics including wheelchair and adaptive golf, tennis, basketball and other hands-on activities such as table tennis, disk golf and laser target shooting. Friday’s schedule will also include a Resource Expo featuring programs, products and services of interest for people with disabilities.
SportsAbility concludes on Saturday with Outdoors Day at the Ochlockonee River State Park.
