TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) _ Right-hander Austin Hyatt and three
relievers led Alabama to a 5-to-3 victory over Georgia today to
clinch the series.
Tide closer Tommy Hunter left the bases loaded in the eighth and
ninth innings for the win.
Georgia (13-23, 5-10 Southeastern Conference) jumped out to an
early 2-to-0 lead in the first inning, but Alabama (22-16, 7-8
S-E-C) came back when Emeel Salem led off the bottom of the first
with a double down the left field line and came around to score on
Brandon May's R-B-I single to right field, making the score 2-to-1.
Alabama took the lead for good with two runs on three hits in
the fourth inning off losing pitcher Dean Weaver.
Georgia added its final run of the game in the ninth inning on a
R-B-I single by Matt Olson. Georgia had 12 hits in the game, but
stranded 14 base runners.
Hyatt (4-1) picked up the win, throwing six and two-thirds
innings, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out four
and walking two.
