There's no fluke to a 3-0 start for the FAMU Lady Rattlers. From their season opening overtime victory over South Florida, the Orange and Green knew there was something special developing.
Senior guard Deidra Jones says,"It showed that the team has a lot of fight. We could have easily laid down and died with about a minute left, because we were down by five. But we kept fighting and came together as a team and showed a lot of comraderie. So that's always signs of a good championship team."
An improved comfort level with second year head coach LeDawn Gibson has helped as well.
Head Coach LeDawn Gibson says, "I think some of them are still adjusting to me and my coaching style and trying to figure out what I want and how I want them to play, but for the most part it's coming together great."
Sophomore guard Tameka McKelton adds, "It was basically like we were just long lost family from the beginning. Everybody got along, the team got along. Everybody came into the system and was ready to buy into what we were doing here."
As the Lady Rattlers continue to build from their fast start, Coach Gibson wants to make sure her team keeps all ten toes on the ground because there is still a long way to go this season..
Coach Gibson says, "I think it's early, and I think it's a legitimate 3-0 start. We still have a lot of things to work on and again it's early. We have some key players who are out right now. Once we get the entire team together, I think it's going to be great."
