Peanuts Sweep Opening Series

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, have swept their
first series of the team’s existence. Manager Wally Backman managed his
first game after being unable to attend the first two games of the season.
Tug Gillingham, Brandon Woolard and Cedric Gibson all got their first
starts of the season with Woolard providing three RBI. Steve Garrabrants
was injured in the first inning and had to leave the but the Peanuts still
won by a score of 4-1.

The scoring began in the top of the second for the Peanuts. Joey Hooft
reached on a fielder’s choice, he then noticed no one was paying attention
to him and time had not been called so he ran to second, and then got to
third on a throwing error. Brandon Woolard then hit an RBI grounder to
give the Peanuts the lead.

The Peanuts then put up two runs in the fourth inning. Doc Brooks led off
the inning with a walk. Joey Hooft hit a double which moved Brooks to
third. Woolard once again came to the plate and promptly hit a single to
score both Hooft and Brooks.

The RedFish got one run back in the fifth when P.J. Lehmann scored on a

The Peanuts got the run back in the eighth. Johnny Washington walked,
advanced to second on a sacrifice and got to third on a ground out.
Washington then scored when catcher Tug Gillingham lined a double to the
gap in right-center field.

Woolard led the way on the night for the Peanuts going 2-4 with three RBI.
Joey Hooft went 2-3 with two runs scored.

The pitching was very effective for the Peanuts. Damien Dantibo pitched
five innings only allowing one run on four hits with three walks and four
strikeouts registering the win. Mike Colacchio pitched one inning allowing
only one hit and Jake Upwood pitched 2.2 innings allowing one hit with

The Peanuts hit the road after the game and headed to Anderson, SC to take
on the Joes. Paul Mezzetta gets the start for the Peanuts. Game time is
