The tale of the 2004 season for the NFC Eagles was of coming so close to their goals of winning a state title, just to fall 2-0 in extra innings. Three years later, a concluding chapter is written.
"We went '04 and got beat 9 innings in the State Championship. We sat down this year and we determined to get there, whether be staying after practice and work harder if we didn't have a good day or practice on a Saturday, it's amazing," said senior second baseman McKinnon Langston.
"Like McKinnon said, we went down in '04 and I wanted to win it then, but it didn't mean as much... We played with this team together for 3 or 4 years as friends, it meant so much to win with this team," states centerfielder Bill Carpenter.
Ever since the state finals loss to Miami's Florida Christian, the Eagles have been on a mission, not just to get there, but to finish the job. In 2007: Mission Accomplished.
"Pretty much went to school for the last 5 or 6 years together and just knowing each other that long, it's just been so rewarding," assesses Carpenter.
"It's been hard work for 4,5,6 years for all of us, and it's a great feeling. This is one of the most true teams that I have ever been on, as far as the players being close and a great group of seniors just stepped up at the end," adds Langston.
A story of persistence, camaraderie, and success is now inscribed in the history books. The 2007 NFC Eagles are State Champs.
