CLEVELAND (AP) _ LeBron James got some big help from rookie
Daniel Gibson and the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to the N-B-A
Finals for the first time after beating the Detroit Pistons
98-to-82 to win the Eastern Conference title in six games.
James had 20 points and 14 rebounds. Gibson, an unflappable
second-round pick out of the University of Texas, scored 19 of his
game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter.
James, who scored 48 points in Cleveland's double-overtime win
in Game Five, didn't have to carry the Cavs by himself. Gibson gave
him all the help he needed.
Detroit's season couldn't have ended worse for the top-seeded
Pistons, making their fifth appearance in the conference finals.
Rasheed Wallace fouled out and then got thrown out after being
slapped with two technicals by referee Eddie Rush in the fourth
quarter. Rip Hamilton fouled out after scoring 29 points.
Cleveland hasn't celebrated a world championship since 1964 when
the Browns won the N-F-L championship.
The N-B-A Finals starts Thursday in San Antonio. The Cavaliers
won both meetings against the Spurs in the regular season.
