Tony Thomas, Jr., Bryan Henry Named Quarterfinalist for Brooks Wallace Award

Lubbock, Texas – The College Baseball Foundation named Bryan Henry and Tony Thomas, Jr. as quarterfinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award. Florida State is one of three schools with two student-athletes on the list of 20 players in the hunt for the Player of the Year Award.

Henry finished the season with a 14-2 record and an ERA of 2.60. He led the team in innings pitched (117.2), strikeouts (117), games started (18) and wins. The senior right hander was named ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2007 as well as being named a semifinalist for the Roger Clemens Award, Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award. Henry was named a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and became the first Seminole pitcher to garner All-ACC first-team honors three times. In addition to the NCAA-best 14 wins, including nine in ACC play, Henry finished his career in eighth place all-time with 32 career wins at Florida State, while becoming just the eighth pitcher all-time to record 14 or more wins in a single season.

In becoming the first Florida State player to earn ACC Player of the Year honors since 2001 and the fourth overall, Thomas leads the league in eight statistical categories and is ranked in the top 10 in three others. The Valrico, Fla., product leads or is tied for the lead, in the ACC in batting average (.430), hits (111), runs scored (91), doubles (33) triples (6), total bases (189), on base percentage (.522) and slugging percentage (.733). In addition, Thomas is third in stolen bases (28), seventh in home runs (11) and eighth in walks with 43. At the ACC Tournament in Jacksonville, the junior second baseman became the first Seminole player to register 30 doubles, 100 hits and 30 stolen bases in a single-season. Thomas has also been recognized as a National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball and a Louisville Slugger first-team All-American. Thomas is also a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award as well as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.

The Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate baseball player and will be televised nationally by Fox College Sports. The selection committee will reduce the list to ten semifinalists following NCAA Regional play. Three finalists will be announced during the College World Series where they will be accompanied by their parents and head coaches to participate in activities with the 2007 Hall of Fame Inductees as part of the Wallace Award and Hall of Fame festivities in Lubbock. The winner will be permanently recognized in the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Wallace Award is a dedication to the memory of the former Texas Tech player and assistant coach Brooks Wallace.
