Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Community College’s women’s basketball team has won ten straight games since opening the season with consecutive losses. Included in the ten-game winning streak are victories over three nationally-ranked opponents – No. 2 Jefferson (Mo.) College, No. 5 Walters State (Tenn.) Community College and No. 22 Santa Fe College.

TCC’s play of late has not gone unnoticed, as the Lady Eagles continue to climb in both the FCCAA and NJCAA polls.

After breaking into the NJCAA rankings last week at No. 15, TCC climbed four more spots to No. 11 when the new Top 25 was released earlier on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles were 3-0 last week, including wins against South Georgia Tech, who received votes in last week’s NJCAA poll, and an 80-73 triumph at then-No. 22 Santa Fe.

“The chemistry has been very good both on and off the court,” said TCC head coach Teresa Atkinson. “The players have remained focused, they play together and they complement one another extremely well. Every player wants to make their teammates better.”

TCC also moved up in the latest FCCAA Women’s Coaches’ Poll, climbing one spot to No. 4.

And while the Lady Eagles have accomplished much during the first five weeks of the season, there is still plenty of work yet to be done. Panhandle Conference rivals Gulf Coast Community College, Pensacola Junior College and Northwest Florida State College are ranked one through three in the FCCAA poll. The same three teams are ahead of the Lady Eagles in the national rankings. Gulf Coast is the nation’s number one team followed by No. 5 Northwest Florida State and No. 8 Pensacola.

To date, the quartet has a combined record of 38-3. Along with surging Chipola College, the reigning FCCAA Champions, the 2010 PC season promises to be an exciting one.

“As long as we stay focused, I think we will continue to be successful,” added Atkinson.

TCC’s next game is Thursday, December 17 when it hosts Central Florida Community College at 5 p.m.
