King of Clay Wins Again

PARIS (AP) - Roger Federer may be the world number one, but it's Rafael Nadal whose got his number at Roland Garros.

The second-ranked Spaniard captured his third-straight French Open title with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over the ten-time Grand Slam champion. It marks his eighth victory over Federer in 12 career meetings and avenges a loss in Hamburg a few weeks ago that snapped an 81-match, clay-court winning streak.

This is the third straight year Federer was attempting to become just the sixth man to win all four Grand Slam events by hoisting the trophy in Paris. Nadal beat him in the semifinals in 2005 and in last year's final.

The latest loss also spoiled Federer's bid to win a fourth consecutive major title, something last accomplished by Rod Laver in 1969.
