ATHENS, Ga.(AP) _ A University of Georgia track team member has
been named one of the Southeastern Conference's two Scholar
Atheletes of the Year.
The league announced today that Natalie Picchetti -- a
mid-distance runner from Rancho Cucamonga, California -- will share
the award for excellence on the track and in the classroom.
Picchetti wrapped up her junior season by earning All-American
honors in the 1500-meter run at the N-C-A-A Outdoor Championships
in Sacramento, California.
She finished eighth in the national finals of the
fifteen-hundred, with a time of 4 minutes 18-point-07 seconds.
Her efforts led the Lady Bulldogs to U-G-A's first regional
cross-country championship in 2006. She was the 2004 S-E-C Female
Freshman of the Year in cross-country.
In the classroom, the psychology major carries a 3-point-72
grade point average. She has been a member of the Dean's LIst and
S-E-C Academic Honor Roll.
She shares the honor with South Carolina's Natasha Hastings.
