MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Braves manager Bobby Cox says third-baseman
Chipper Jones is getting close to coming back.
Cox said tonight that -- quote -- ``it's not week-to-week
anymore, it's day-to-day.''
The Braves had hoped Jones might be ready to come back for
tonight's game with the Minnesotta Twins. But he remained on the
disabled list after taking batting practice the past few days.
Jones has been out with sore wrists. Cox said he hopefully will
be back on the field some time during the team's current road trip.
Cox added that pitcher John Smoltz -- who skipped his last
scheduled start on Sunday while recovering from shoulder
inflammation -- is on track to make his next start on Friday.
