Sunday afternoon at Maclay High School, the United Way of the Big Bend teammed up with current and former professional athletes for the Inaugural Pros & Joes celebrity football game. The cast of characters included Atlanta Falcon and former NFL Rookie of the Year Buddy Curry, FSU Hall of Famer Bobby Butler, FSU Hall of Famer Jimmy Jordan, Tallahassee Titans Rod Miller, Former FSU Safety Kyler Hall, Maclay Offensive Coordinator Frank Porter, and Aide to Tallahassee Mayor John Marks, Alan Williams.
The event is the first snap to a weeklong Kids & Pros youth camp that emphasizes community leadership, character and the fundamentals of football. The camp registration begins Monday morning at 7:30 am and features several of the former athletes giving instructions to camp participants.
As for the game... FSU Hall of Fame Quarterback Jimmy Jordan (who was part of Coach Bowden's first recruiting class and part of the 11-0 season at FSU) scrambled out of the pocket and found Rod Miller for a long touchdown pass. After a Rod Miller interception gave the Pros another quick possession, Jordon found former Seminole and Tampa Bay Buc, Kez McKorvey in the endzone. That made it 12-0 in favor of the Pros. But a Jordan bomb was picked off by Alan Williams of the Joes, and returned for a touchdown. The Pick-6 made it 12-6. Following a Rob Sharette interception, Frank Porter found a diving Sharette in the endzone to tie it at 12-12 going into halftime. The second half had the same excitement and as a result ended in a 24-24 tie.
