ATLANTA (AP) _ Rookie Jarrod Saltalamacchia
(sahl-tah-lah-MAH'-kee-uh) and Andruw Jones supplied the power as
Atlanta topped Washington 6-to-2.
Saltalamacchia hit solo shots in the third and fifth innings for
his first multihomer game as a major leaguer. Jones was mired in a
1-for-31 slump before launching a three-run homer that put the
Braves ahead 5-to-1 in the fifth.
Buddy Carlyle pitched shutout ball after the third, giving up
five hits over seven innings to even his mark at 2-and-2. He
outpitched Mike Bacsik (BA'-sihk), who was tagged for five runs and
eight hits in six innings to fall to 1-and-5.
The Braves pulled off a 7-2-6 double play in the first inning,
getting Felipe Lopez at the plate before Ryan Church was thrown out
at third.
