Smoltz to Have Shoulder Examined

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ John Smoltz will return to Atlanta tomorrow
and meet with Braves doctors about his right shoulder discomfort.
The 40-year-old pitcher will likely skip his final start before
the All-Star break, which begins Monday. The team said Smoltz will
meet with doctors Friday to discuss what type of test is
appropriate.
Smoltz is 9-and-5 with a 3.07 E-R-A. He was selected to his
eighth National League All-Star team Sunday. The game is Tuesday in
San Francisco.
Smoltz' next scheduled start would have been this weekend when
the Braves visit San Diego.
