The Seminole Student Boosters, in conjunction with Florida State University and Seminole Athletics, launched its TRUE Seminole campaign Tuesday afternoon at a press conference at the Moore Athletics Center.
The TRUE Seminole Campaign is a student initiated movement to unite the Seminole Community and harness what is best about FSU: our Unconcerned spirit and our one sense of core values.
Vision: Inspire SPIRIT and SERVICE in the Seminole Community through students, alumni, faculty and friends.
Mission: The TRUE Seminole Campaign aims to build tradition and respect by unifying the Seminole community
to achieve excellence. It is an honor to represent the Unconquered
Spirit of the Seminole Tribe and we strive to uphold the ideals of our namesake and our University.
Values: Tradition, Respect, Unity, and Excellence.
We want to come together, and challenge each other, so everyone can celebrate what makes the spirit of FSU so special. To build new excitement around campus by instilling in the Seminole Community the four ideals of Tradition, Respect, Unity, and Excellence.
The TRUE Pride Tee program is just one of the first projects the campaign aims to implement.
Portions from every shirt sold will be donated back to Seminole Boosters, Inc. In turn, monies will be donated to a SGA financial aide account to help benefit need-based students. The other monies will be place into an endowment fund for student athletic scholarships.
The concept for the inaugural t-shirt design came from the whole idea that we are a "Seminole Community" and as a single person we each are Seminoles, but together We are Florida State.
The TRUE Seminole campaign logo is made up of an authentic Seminole Tribe band meaning 4 directions and our in the colors of medicine.
The concept for the entire campaign came about during the Seminole Student Boosters Executive board retreat as a way to unify the university students, alumni, and fans.
The Student Government Association was approached to help our cause as a way to reach out to the student body.
Director of Athletics Dave Hart:
"This is an exciting opportunity for us and particularly for the Student Boosters. They have worked very, very hard over the last few years. They've had two big events with Seminole Uprising which have been very successful events where we've had a chance to have all of our intercollegiate athletic teams gather in one spot and get the year off with some enthusiasm."
"This concept has been studied for a long time, a lot of people have participated in the planning of this. Student Boosters president Joe Mahshie and his peers have gathered a lot of feedback from merchants, from students, from coaches, from our administration, from student-athletes. And they talked to other schools have who have had some success with similar ventures."
Sophomore Safety Myron Rolle:
"I consider it an honor to call myself a Seminole and to wear the Florida State uniform. It will now be an honor for the fans of Florida State to wear this game day shirt. As a student-athlete and a member of the Student Boosters Executive Board, I'm very pleased to see this program get off of the ground. It will be extremely uplifting to me, as a player, and to the team as a whole, to be surrounded by fans that are completely unified wearing the TRUE Pride Tee."
Head Coach Bobby Bowden:
"When I first came to Florida State 31 years ago, we were always thinking of ways in which we could get spirit going. Remember when we used to take the balloons out there and release the balloons? I can't think of anything finer than to have the students come up with something like this that will really unite our fans and boosters and everything together, so we thank you for that."
