From gymnastics, to softball, and of course baseball, plenty of sports are being played these days by the area's youth. That's no surprise.. but what is a surprise is the amount of success our local teams are having.
Today we shine the spotlight on the Live Oak Swampdogs. The Suwannee 10 and under Cal Ripken baseball all star team won the North State Tournament.
They did so, in an exciting fashion, with the final game going into extra innings. When their opponent scored two runs, the Swampdogs had to dig deep. They responded with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning, securing the title.
"Our third base coach kept saying to us every time was came up to the bat, we're gonna win, we're gonna win," says 10-year SwampDog Brandon Furrey.
"Tow in it all was a surprise in one way. We kept telling the kids stay in the ball-game, keep the score low. You got a chance to win it. We were as good as any team int hat tournament, but it takes that little bit of luck," adds assistant coach Ronnie Baldwin.
