ANGOULEME, France (AP) _ Alberto Contador has all but clinched a
Tour de France victory but like many others in this race, he's
facing allegations of doping.
The Spaniard leads Australian Cadel Evans by 23 seconds and
barring a crash or other mishap, he'll take home the yellow jersey
when the race concludes tomorrow in Paris.
But French newspaper Le Monde reports Contador's name, or
initials, appeared to be in documents found at the apartment of a
doctor at the center of a Spanish doping probe.
Contador says he's "sure'' that he's not involved in the case
and insists he's innocent.
Contador inherited the leader's yellow jersey after Michael
Rasmussen was kicked out of the race by his team, which said the
Dane had lied about his whereabouts last month when he missed a
American Levi Leipheimer (LEE'-vy LYP'-hy-mur) won Saturday's
stage, a 35-mile individual time trial. He's 31 seconds off the
pace after his first stage victory.
