FSU Practice, Countdown to Clemson

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Former All-American cornerback and Thorpe award winner Terrell Buckley will serve as a student-assistant for Florida State.

Tuesday was the first day of practice as the Seminoles prepare for a September 3rd opener at Clemson.

Tackle Paul Griffin, safety Anthony Houllis and linebackers Derek Nicholson and Marcus Ball had surgery to fix knee injuries suffered in the 2006 season. All are competing for starting positions.

However, senior center John Frady, junior guard Dumaka Atkins and junior linebacker Jae Thaxton have not been cleared medically to begin practice. Frady started all 13 games last season while Atkins played in ten games last season.

Bowden also said second-team offensive tackle Matt Hardrick has been kicked off the team for a violation of team rules.
