FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - Running back Warrick Dunn returned to practice with the Atlanta Falcons Monday for the first time since back surgery last month.
Dunn hopes to return for the Falcons' third preseason game when Cincinnati visits the Georgia Dome on August 27.
The 32-year-old Dunn had surgery to repair a herniated disc five days before training camp began on July 26th. After spending most of last week running, Dunn convinced coach Bobby Petrino that he is ready to take some snaps in full pads.
A three-time Pro Bowl selection and the 12th overall draft pick for Tampa Bay in 1997, Dunn surpassed 1,000 yards last year as Atlanta led the NFL in rushing for the third straight season.
His 9,461 career yards rank third among active players. Barring a setback, Petrino sees no reason that Dunn won't be ready for the regular season opener at Minnesota on September 9.
