GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Former NBA player and University of
Florida standout Vernon Maxwell is being held without bond in an
Alachua County jail for a probation violation.
The Gainesville Sun is reporting that Maxwell turned himself in
to authorities Sunday. Prosecutors tell the newspaper that Maxwell
violated probation by not paying the state for his supervision,
possessing a controlled substance and failing to pay court-ordered
Maxwell reportedly was also arrested this past year in North
Carolina for drug possession charges.
Maxwell played at Florida from 1985 to 1988. During his 13-year
NBA career, Maxwell helped the Houston Rockets to NBA titles in
1994 and 1995.
